Cosmic Clash, a Play&Own game on the WAX blockchain has been live for over a year now with 8 successful seasons of gameplay. Each season alternates between a “regular” season where we introduce some new ships, and a “tournament” season where players battle to win FGL tokens + NFTs from various sponsor projects.

In this latest tournament season we have introduced a new mode of gameplay: King of the Hill!

Overview

In this new battle mode players must create 5 fleets of starships from their collection and send them out to capture space stations to gather resources + climb the leaderboard. Whoever collects the most medals from the legendary space stations at the end of the week will win FGL + sponsor prizes.

Although the battling is quick and you are limited to 30 a day, you will want to check in from time to time throughout the day to make sure your fleets are not idle.

Step 1: Join the tournament

Each tournament lasts for 1 week and is sponsored by a different WAX game. To enter a tournament you must pay a fee in FGL once at the start then the rest of the week of gameplay is free.

Gold Tournament

The gold tournament is geared towards Cosmic Clash veterans that have a lot of powerful + high rarity ships and have a strong understanding of the strategies involved. It costs 1000 FGL to enter the tournament and has the biggest prizes to win.

Bronze Tournament

The bronze tournament is for newer players and limits what ships you can bring to ensure a level playing field. Each week has different rules but allows access to some basic ships even if you don’t own them! It costs 500 FGL to enter the bronze tournament.

To join a tournament:

  1. Go to https://play.cosmicclash.io/ and click the “Tournaments” button on the left hand menu
  2. Choose which tournament you would like to join. Feel free to join both!

Summary UI

Once you have joined the tournament become familiar with the summary UI bar at the top of the screen.

  1. Displays the details of which tournament you are currently looking at along with the fleet rules.
  2. Display how many minerals you currently have.
  3. Displays how much energy you currently have.
  4. Displays how many medals you currently have + a link to the leaderboard.
  5. Shows you how many battles you have left. At 18:00 UTC each day this is reset to 30, so don’t run out!

Step 2: Build your Fleets

Now that you have signed up it is time to build some fleets to get started. Every time you build a fleet it costs 1000 minerals, so keep in mind that disbanding / creating new fleets will cost you! Check out the Cosmic Clash whitepaper + play with the simulator to fully understand all the strategies involved.

The most basic rock/paper/scissors though is:
- Missile ships defeat projectile / corrosive ships
- High armor ships (like Abyssal ships) defeat missile ships
- High shield ships defeat corrosive ships

To build a fleet:

  1. Click “Create a new Fleet” on the top right
  2. Scroll the bottom section to find and choose the 5 ships that you want
  3. Click the ship to add it, click it in the upper area to remove it
  4. Use the left + right arrows to change the position of the ship in the fleet
  5. Once you are ready, click “Create Now” to create the fleet!

Step 3: Attack!

Now that you have some fleets prepared, it is time to attack a space station! First, we need to talk about the three rarities of station + what resource they provide.

The Station UI

  1. this section will show you the rarity of the space station, who currently owns it, and what their fleet is. Before you attack a station make sure you check the fleet to know if you can defeat it!
  2. this shows you how much of the resource you will earn while you HOLD it. This is automatically credited to your account every 10 seconds. Note that different stations have different values here, making some more lucrative than others (but also harder to hold onto!)
  3. This is how much of the resource you will get INSTANTLY when you take it over. The bounty goes up over time so the longer you hold a station, the more tempting it gets for someone to attack it!
  4. Click this button to attack the station and attempt to grab control! It will tell you how much of a resource it costs. If you already own a station, you can abandon it from here as well.

RARE Station / Minerals

The rare space stations are on the lowest tier possible.

Attacking: Free! Attacking a RARE station costs no resources

Holding: RARE stations make you “minerals” over time

Minerals are a bit special because they are also used to build fleets, make sure you have plenty of minerals so you can create fleets + attack EPIC stations.

EPIC Station / Energy

Epic stations are the middle level of rarity, they are incredibly important because they give you the resource you need to attack legendaries.

Attacking: Attacking an EPIC station costs 1000 minerals X the rate it mines at. So the better the station the higher its cost to attack it.

Holding: EPIC stations make you “energy” over time.

LEGENDARY Station / Medals

Finally we have the legendary space stations! This is how you finally earn “medals” which are used on the leaderboard to win you prizes. Your ultimate goal is to hang on to these as long as possible to rank up.

Attacking: Attacking a LEGENDARY station costs 1000 energy X the rate it mines at. So the better the station the higher its cost to attack it.

Holding: LEGENDARY stations make you “medals” over time.

Step 4: Win Prizes

At the end of the day your ultimate goal is to win as much FGL + as many sponsor NFT prizes as possible. Perfect your strategy to earn you maximum number of medals so you can win the day.

You will need to balance your 5 fleets between all the rarities of space station, keeping in mind how many total battles you get per day. The trick is to not run out of any resource OR battles but still collect as many medals as possible.

Good luck!
