FGL NFT’s 2022 in review
“How to get on the WL?”, “Wen Whitepaper?”, “Wen website?” Just a handful of phrases from those early days that still haunt us ;) We entered the WAX market in the hayday of the bull market. Most “games” out there were just clicking experiences and the landscape was fraught with rugpull projects. We were on a mission to bring fun and trustworthiness to the WAX game space.
It was January 7th 2022 when we opened our Discord sever… Now we’re almost 1 year later and 3 full Play&Own Games are up and running. How did we do? We’ll leave that judgement up to you. But apparently 60% of our Discord community is sticking around for the long run, so I guess we’re doing something right! (note that we regularly purge inactive acounts)
We launched the Cosmic Clash website on January 11th and the FGL Token whitepaper followed shortly after. We entered a very rocky month full of scrutiny (and AstonMartine was dealing with COVID during this time, oh what fun timing). Of course, we brought with us more than 15 years of game development and publishing experience, but…the crypto community? That was new to us. Many of you were right to point out that our whitelisting process wasn’t ideal and our first Cosmic Clash drop was optimistically priced and sized. But coverage by WAX and Blockleaders gave us enough credibility for the Cosmic Clash drop to be quite a success.
Mid February, almost 3 weeks after the drop, the game launched. A nerve wrecking moment for the team; was this the beginning of our downfall? Luckily no, Cosmic Clash quickly found a steady following of loyal players who enjoy the strategic challenge. After our first Milky Way drop we’ve expanded with 7 more galaxies, adding to the complexity and challenging players to adjust their battle strategy with the introduction of new ships and new abilities. This game is not showing any signs of slowing down!
Mecha World was announced in March and was met with great enthusiasm. In hindsight, this overwhelmingly positive response made us rush pack drops and development too much. We had a succesful 1st drop by the end of April and a 2nd drop at the start of May. This was all fine, but what about the game launch? That’s where the team needed more time. The complex structure of NFT burning and blending delayed a proper launch and your patience was tested. With a staged rollout that lasted from early June until late November we’re aware we disappointed quite some investors, but we’re all the happier we managed to live up to fun game expectations in the end. With a 2nd battle mode in the works and implementation of constant improvements driven by community feedback, we’re far from being done with Mecha World! 2023 Will be more about deepening the lore and building out this strange post-apocalyptic world run by robotic animals.
FGL NFT Games is more than just the team behind it. You as the community are just as much part of it. So during the summer of 2022 when Bubuwen84 and ZubaZ launched a fan-made Cosmic Clash community game we helped them promote it and sponsored some prizes. This community website grew out to be the foundation for Outlaw Troopers, the 3rd game launched by FGL NFT Games. With a game ready to be played the day after the pack dropn(we learned from the Mecha World launch), we managed a smooth launch. Of course, all our games use the cross-game FGL Token, but Outlaw Troopers is the first project that also uses NFT’s from our other games. Use your Cosmic Clash ships to go on missions and fight in the real-time encounters! More integration of FGL Metaverse elements will follow in 2023.
And what about Nifty Fish? After the collection on Atomic Hub leaked early 2022 we decided to reveal the website ahead of schedule. However, having learned a great deal over the past year we decided not to repeat mistakes and rush this project, but to wait until the game is in a solid state before launching the first sale. Expect to see more from Nifty Fish this year!
Again, FGL NFT Games is more than just the team and the games, it’s also about the community. Thank you for following our projects and progress, for actively engaging, helping us with feedback and suggestions and for making our job fun. Best wishes to you all and here’s to a great 2023!
